A few years ago, Tim and I purchased a future retirement home in North Fort Myers, Florida and I have spent half my time there ever since. It took me a while to get used to scenery that was so different from our home in the rolling hills of central Kentucky. Southern Florida is FLAT incase you didn’t know that! I had to open my artist eyes to new subjects and it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the large wading birds: Heron, Egrets, Storks, Roseate Spoonbills. We visit nearby swamps, sloughs and ponds so I can take reference photos. Starting out with a point and shoot camera, it didn’t take long for me to realize I needed a better camera. Now I am sort of proficient at using my new 7D Canon.
Falling in love with the Florida birds has lead to expanding my interests to other winged creatures.
