A new Great Blue Heron painting. I watched this fellow creep along the water’s edge looking for breakfast. He did such a good job of blending into his surroundings, that at first I didn’t notice him. He stopped and stood like a statue then with a quick strike, he caught a catfish that I figured was way too big for him to swallow. Did you know they spear their meals with the bottom part of their beak? He had to flip it loose from his beak and get it positioned head first. After several minutes the fish went down his long neck creating a noticeable lump. He sauntered off, contently.
